Wagha, a village on the border of India and Pakistan, is famous for the daily beating retreat on the India Pakistan Border. There is a daily ceremony called the Wagah Border beating retreat. Wagah village is located in Pakistan on the Grand Trunk Road between Amritsar (India) and Lahore (Pakistan). Wagah border is 29 km from Lahore and 27 km from Amritsar. Bagha border is regularly opened for tourists. The last Indian village on the border is Attari. The border is also called Attari border. There is a customs check post at Attari and is also a trade borde between India and Pakistan

Objective of the Attari Wagah Border Ceremony

A ceremony is held here daily called the Wagah Border Ceremony. The Wagah border ceremony began in 1959. The main objective of the Wagah border ceremony is to create an atmosphere of mutual cooperation and harmony between the two countries. It is popularly known as Beating Retreat Ceremony. During this ceremony the border is formally closed and the flags of both the countries are flagged off honorably. This ceremony is held every evening before sunset. It is an entertainment ceremony in which patriotism is at full display. The josh is created by patriotic songs, video clips on giant Screens, flag runs and sloganeering.

Attari Wagah border Parade timing

The ceremony lasts for about 45 minutes. A large number of tourists visit this ceremony. As there are limited seats not everyone can get in, so if you want to watch the ceremony, you have to reach the place before 3:00 pm, not later than that. The Beating Retreat ceremony (Wagah Border Ceremony) begins at 4:15 pm in winter and 4:45 pm in summer. There is a huge open air theater built on the Indian side for this. People from Pakistan also visit this place to see this ceremony and sit inside their enclosures which are relatively small.

Attari Wagah border entry fee

There is no ticket fee for viewing ceremonies. For advance entry passes, go to BSF cantt in Khasa village and book your seat.  Khasa village is located just a few km from the Attari border. While going there, do not forget to take your ID proof with you.

How to Reach Attari Wagah border

The ceremony place is located in Attari in Amritsar in the state of Punjab, India. Attari Wagah border is 27 km from Amritsar. You can take taxis or private buses from Amritsar that drop you off at the customs post. Or you can also arrange for a taxi with the hotel you are staying in.
