Barot-A Beautiful place in Mandi

Barot, situated in Mandi district of Himachal Pradesh, is a small beautiful hill station situated on the Uhal River. The Barot Valley, one of the hidden scenic spots in Himachal, was built for a power project on the Uhl River, which has slowly become popular as a hill-station among tourists. The panoramic view and unexpected air attracts travelers from all over the world for sightseeing here. This place is a paradise for trekkers.

Because this place passes through the village for its many trekking trails and hence it is also a favorite trekking destination. There are very few tourists who know about the Barot Valley and its hidden landscapes. The village of Baraut came into the limelight when the Shanan hydroelectric project was proposed in India around 1920. The project was launched to harness the hydropower potential of the Uhal River which lies between Barot and Jogindernagar.

Fishing in Uhl River: – The Baraut Valley has a lot to do for tourists. Let me tell you that fishing in Uhl river is popular here in Barot. Trout breeding centers make it an ideal place for fishing.

Camping: – Camping along the Uhl River near the Barot Valley is a major attraction here. If you want to stay away from the hustle and bustle of the city, then you can enjoy camping here on weekends with family members.

Trekking: – Many of the routes around the Baraut Valley are preferred for treks. The Barot Himri trek along the Mul Trail is quite famous. During the winter season many tourists especially go to Barot for snow trekking.

The best time to visit Barot is between April and June, the winter season during summer and between November and February are the best places to visit and explore the valley.

How to reach Barot

Barot is located 40 km from Jogindernagar city and 66 km from Mandi. Tourists can also take a public bus to reach Barout from Mandi, Jogindernagar, and Palampur. Several buses ply for Kothikode, Bada Gran and Luhardi which pass through Barout. The nearest railway station of Barout is Jogindernagar railway station. If you want to travel by air then let us know that the nearest airport is Kullu Manali Airport which is about 3.5 hours away from Barot. Tourists can take public transport or hire to reach the valley via NH154 and NH3.
