The other major attractions during this season are the Winter Carnival and Ice Skating in Shimla.

During this peak winters, heavy warm clothing including jackets, mufflers, shawls , caps and socks are worn to fight the extreme chill weather.  You can buy this stuff at Shimla market also.Tourists are advised to wear heavy boots to avoid falling on the snow covered streets of Shimla.

Summers in Shimla are moderate and the weather is very pleasant. March-May is the months of summer and the peak seasons. From July to September Shimla witnesses monsoon. The temperature during monsoons ranges from 15 o c -25 o c. Heavy ceaseless downpours quenches the thirsty earth after two months of hot summer. The seasonal waterfalls, natural springs, rivers and ponds blush and get flooded with a renewed and recharged spirit. However Shimla is not flooded  as the water drains out quickly. There my be minor landslides here and there but there is no disruption of  rail and road traffic.

Best time to visit Shimla

Shimla is also a holiday destination in July and one of the best times to visit. You can get respite from the hot and humid weather of the plains. As the hill slopes receive water, grass and other seasonal flowers start start growing and make the area green.  It may be times the incessant rains may not allow tourists to step out of the hotel and enjoy the scenic beauty of Shimla in the natures lap.

The sky is always clouded and mist and fog can be seen over deep gorges and hill tops. The visibility of mountains, hills and forests is impaired due to mist and fog. This offers a unique view not found in the plain areas as like hilly area.

In beginning of July, it’s not too cold but as time progresses with August and September the rains becomes cool and winds are causing shivering. So light woolens, light shawls need to be carried. And most of all don’t forget umbrellas, raincoats they can at least save the body from getting wet and finally becoming sick.
