Dharamshala, this beautiful hill station of Kangra district is situated amidst the Dhauladhar mountain ranges. Dharamshala has an average elevation of 1,457 metres (4,780 ft), covering an area of almost 8.51 km (3.29 sq mi). It is the second capital of Himachal. The average temperatures during summers (March to June) are between 14°C and 20°C and with a maximum touching about 30°C. The minimum temperature during winters (November to February) can go as low as -7°C with maximum never crossing 10°C. Best time to visit Dharamshala is summers and winters as per liking.

The temperature begins to rise, and snow begins to fade away in April. The temperature in Summers ranges between 20 and 35 degrees Celcius. Dharamshala gets heavy showers throughout the monsoon season, July till October. During July, the wettest month of the year, the city receives more than 850 mm of precipitation. The average maximum temperature of the period drops to 25°C while the low fluctuates between 18°C and 22°C. Being a hill station it also experiences heavy rainfall and there are chances of landslides occurring here.

December to February: Winters in Dharamshala are freezing, but if you enjoy the cold and snow-white mountains, then this is a beautiful time to visit. Snowfall is the main attraction for tourists that Dharamshala receives around the time of Christmas in December.

The best time to visit Dharamshala between February to June (spring and summer) when the weather is pleasant with a maximum temperature of 25 degrees Celsius. The day time temperatures are very pleasant and though it doesn’t get too cold it is pleasant enough for the city slicker escaping the heat and dust of the plains.
